This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, November 2nd, 
2011.



A SHORT-EARED OWL and a SEASIDE SPARROW were seen at Beckman's Landing in 
Seabrook on October 26th.



There were reports of 2 GOLDEN EAGLES from Little Round Top in Bristol, and 
3 from Pack Monadnock in Peterborough during the past week.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen in Hampton on October 29th and 30th.



A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and 2 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS were seen at Great Boar's 
Head in Hampton on October 31st.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on 
October 30th.



A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen in Blackwater Creek in Seabrook on October 30th.



A FORSTER'S TERN, 9 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, a COMMON 
TERN, 34 SNOW BUNTINGS, and 2 NELSON'S SPARROWS were reported from along the 
coast on October 29th, and a LAPLAND LONGSPUR, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 3 PALM 
WARBLERS, and a RUSTY BLACKBIRD were seen along the coast on the 30th.



A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen at the Wilder Dam on the Connecticut River on 
November 2nd.



18 RUDDY DUCKS, 50 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, and 7 GREATER 
YELLOWLEGS were seen at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant on October 
28th, and an ICELAND GULL, 38 RUDDY DUCKS, and 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL were seen 
there on November 2nd. The treatment plant is gated and the hours of 
operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the 
office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have 
to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the 
road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not 
gated, and are always open during daylight hours.



2 RUDDY DUCKS, 8 AMERICAN COOTS, a BONAPARTE'S GULL, and a BARN SWALLOW were 
reported from Derry on October 28th.



70 BLACK SCOTERS, a SURF SCOTER, 6 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 3 LESSER SCAUP, 6 
BUFFLEHEADS, and 2 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were seen at the Wilder Dam on 
the Connecticut River on October 27th.



6 AMERICAN COOTS were seen at Mine Falls Park, and 4 were seen at Field's 
Grove, all in Nashua on October 29th. 21 AMERICAN COOTS and 3 PIED-BILLED 
GREBES were seen on Eel Pond in Rye on October 29th.



103 RING-NECKED DUCKS were seen on Tolman Pond in Nelson on October 27th.



A PECTORAL SANDPIPER, and 5 SNOW BUNTINGS were reported from Penacook on 
October 30th, and an EASTERN PHOEBE, 2 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, 9 HERMIT 
THRUSHES, 3 AMERICAN PIPITS, a COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 4 PALM WARBLERS, a 
VESPER SPARROW, a FOX SPARROW, and 6 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen there on the 
29th.



2 SPRUCE GROUSE and 5 GRAY JAYS were seen on Mount Field in Crawford Notch 
on October 25th.



There were several reports of AMERICAN TREE SPARROW during the past week.



A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and a BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER were reported from 
Spofford Village on October 30th.



A SWAINSON'S THRUSH was seen on the coast on October 29th.



A GREATER YELLOWLEGS and 2 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS were reported from 
Powder Mill Pond in Hancock on October 28th.



246 RED-TAILED HAWKS were counted migrating over Balch Hill in Hanover on 
October 28th.



A group of 10 TURKEY VULTURES was reported from Nashua on October 29th.



Over 14,000 raptors were reported from the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration 
Observatory in Peterborough, and nearly 10,000 were reported from the Carter 
Hill Raptor Observatory in Concord, all since September 1st. Species 
reported include GOLDEN EAGLE, BALD EAGLE, OSPREY, NORTHERN HARRIER, 
AMERICAN KESTREL, MERLIN, PEREGRINE FALCON, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, COOPER'S 
HAWK, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, BROAD-WINGED HAWK, and 
RED-TAILED HAWK. The observatories are now officially closed for the season.
