This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, July 6th, 2015.



A WHITE-FACED IBIS was seen with a flock of 7 GLOSSY IBIS in the salt marsh 
near Huckleberry Lane in Hampton on July 5th.



2 pairs of MISSISSIPPI KITES are nesting in Newmarket and currently have at 
least 1 chick. The KITES are most often seen flying near Gonet Road in 
Newmarket and were last reported on July 5th.



A ROYAL TERN was seen in Hampton Harbor on July 2nd, but has not been 
relocated.



A pair of LEAST TERNS is nesting on the beach in Hampton Beach State Park, 
and 2-more adults were seen flying nearby on July 5th.



A few PIPING PLOVERS continued to be reported from Hampton Beach State Park 
and Seabrook Town Beach during the past week



A BLACK VULTURE was seen in Concord on July 2nd.



3 SANDHILL CRANES were seen behind the cemetery on Plains Road in Monroe on 
June 27th, and are likely to still be in the area..



3 BRANT were seen in coastal Rye on July 3rd.



An out-of-season HORNED GREBE was seen in Hampton Marsh on July 4th.



A colony of 13 pairs of PURPLE MARTINS are nesting along Cross Beach Road in 
Seabrook and were last counted on July 2nd.



Single AMERICAN BITTERNS were reported from Hampton, Durham, Sunapee, and 
Whitefield during the past week.



3 UPLAND SANDPIPERS, and 2 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were reported from the Pease 
International Tradeport on July 5th.



A female SPRUCE GROUSE with 6 chicks was seen at the Lake Umbagog National 
Wildlife Refuge on July 3rd, and another female with 3 chicks was seen at 
Dixville Peak on July 2nd.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen along Trudeau Road in Bethlehem on July 
4th.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, several BOREAL CHICKADEES, a GRAY JAY, and a few 
BICKNELL’S THRUSHES were all reported from the Caps Ridge Trail off of 
Jefferson Notch Road in the White Mountains on June 27th, and again on July 
3rd.



5 BICKNELL’S THRUSHES, and 3 GRAY JAYS were reported from near the summit of 
Mount Tom in the White Mountains on July 5th.



A NELSON’S SPARROW was reported from Philbrick Marsh along Route 1A in North 
Hampton on July 4th.



Highlights of birds seen on a whale-watching cruise on the Granite State 
Whale Watch out of Rye Harbor on July 4th included: 14 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 2 
GREAT SHEARWATERS, 6 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 120 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, a 
NORTHERN GANNET, a GREAT CORMORANT, a COMMON MURRE, 2 ROSEATE TERNS, and 50 
COMMON TERNS
