New Hampshire Audubon's Mascoma Chapter is to hold a bird walk at Bedell Bridge State Historic Site on Saturday, October 6, 2018. The walk is to start at 7:30 a.m. and end about 10:00 a.m. This walk, free and open to the public, will be co-led by Mascoma Chapter Steering Committee members Blake Allison, Jeff MacQueen, and George Clark. All experience levels are welcome. The walking is level, traveling over a dirt road and lawn-like grassy areas.  We'll be looking for a good variety of fall migrants. Bring binoculars and spotting scopes as you wish. In the unfortunate case  of steady rain, the event will be cancelled.

Road instructions: If coming from southern locations and wishing to carpool, meet at 7:00 a.m. in the parking lot on the Vermont side of the Ledyard Bridge in Norwich.  If coming from Hanover, drive across the Ledyard Bridge, take an immediate right turn onto River Road in Norwich, and then an immediate left turn into the parking lot from which we are to leave at 7:00. We anticipate return to the Norwich lot around 10:30  a.m.

Alternatively, If coming directly to the historic site, there are two routes from the south. In New Hampshire, take NH Route 10 north to the Haverhill Green. Another quarter mile farther ahead on the left, you'll see Meadow Road. Turn onto it and follow it about a mile to the boat launch parking area where walk participants will assemble. As the other alternative, take I-91 in Vermont north to Exit 16 - Bradford/VT Route 25. At the bottom of the ramp, turn right onto Route 25. Follow it eastward about a mile, crossing US Route 5 and passing Farm-Way, before traversing the Connecticut River into NH. A quarter mile farther, River Road will appear on your left. Follow River Road northward to its  junction with NH Route 10. Turn left onto Route 10. Then continue to Meadow Road on your left, and follow it about a mile to the boat launch parking area.
