Despite fog elsewhere in the Upper Valley, visiblity was good for this
morning's Windsor County 2014 Birding Quest coverage in the area of
North Springfield Reservoir in Springfield and Weathersfield, VT. Some
highlights among more than 40 bird species follow.

Two juvenile Bald Eagles were first seen on mud flats, but later one
of them flew to the vicinity of the nesting tree. An adult Bald Eagle,
presumably one of their parents, was also well seen. At least one
Osprey was present. A Northern Harrier was unexpected and presumably a
transient because none is known to have nested nearby. Among the
waterbirds were at least 3 Great Blue Herons, Green Herons, and 2
Double-crested Cormorants. Shorebirds included a number of Killdeer,
Spotted and Solitary Sandpipers, Lesser Yellowlegs, and Least
Sandpipers. Among the landbirds of interest were a Red-bellied
Woodpecker, a calling Great Crested Flycatcher, a few Eastern
Kingbirds, a singing Carolina Wren, a singing Hermit Thrush, Rose-
breasted Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings, and at least one singing Swamp
Sparrow.

Special thanks to Chris Rimmer for coleading and for compiling results
for eBird.
