This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, November 
13th, 2013.



A male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD has been seen and photographed visiting 
hummingbird birdfeeders at a private residence in Manchester since October 
6th. It was most recently reported on November 13th.



A WHITE-EYED VIREO was seen at the Urban Forestry Center in Portsmouth on 
November 10th, 11th, and 13th. It was seen in the vicinity of the water pump 
house near the marsh.



A WHITE-EYED VIREO was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant near 
the office buildings on November 10th. Also present at the plant were 3 
NORTHERN PINTAILS, and 8 RUDDY DUCKS.



A GREATER WHITE FRONTED GOOSE continues to be seen with CANADA GEESE on Main 
Street just below the 12th Street bridge in Berlin and was most recently 
reported on November 11th.



2 adult male EURASIAN WIGEONS were seen in the southeast corner of Great Bay 
on November 3rd. Also present were 70 AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 BLACK SCOTERS, a 
SURF SCOTER, and 2 HORNED GREBES.



2 GOLDEN EAGLES were seen from atop Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on 
November 6th, and 1 was seen there on the 10th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was reported from Jaffrey on November 6th.



An ICELAND GULL was seen at Rockingham Park in Salem on November 9th.



8 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were seen on the edge of the ponds located on Charcoal 
Road in Dublin on November 6th, and 1 was seen on Great Bay on the 10th.



A PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 9 WILSON’S SNIPE, 4 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 3 RUDDY DUCKS, 
and 3 PIED-BILLED GREBES were seen on World End Pond in Salem during the 
past week.



2 PURPLE SANDPIPERS and 8 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen in Hampton on 
November 9th.



2 GREATER SCAUP were seen on Tolman Pond in Nelson on November 6th.



A RED-NECKED GREBE and a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER were seen on Dublin Lake on 
November 6th.



A HORNED GREBE and a RED-NECKED GREBE were seen on Lake Umbagog, and a 
RED-NECKED GREBE was seen on Aker’s Pond, all in Errol on November 11th.



5 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen in Dixville, and 2 LESSER SCAUP were seen 
in Errol, all on November 11th.



36 RUDDY DUCKS, a RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, and 2 AMERICAN COOTS were seen on 
Canobie Lake in Salem on November 10th.



126 RUDDY DUCKS were seen on Willand Pond in Dover on November 12th.



25 AMERICAN COOTS were seen on Powwow Pond in Kingston on November 10th.



Over 1,600 RED-THROATED LOONS were counted migrating south along the coast 
on November 10th.



A flock of 12 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS was seen in Westmoreland on November 9th.



An estimated 150 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at Moore Fields located off of 
Route 155A in Durham on November 10th.



A NORTHERN PARULA was seen at the Goss Farm Conservation Area in Rye, 2 PALM 
WARBLERS were seen along the coast, and a PINE WARBLER and a RUBY-CROWNED 
KINGLET were seen in Penacook, all on November 9th.



Over 800 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on November 
10th, 175 SNOW BUNTINGS and 23 HORNED LARKS were seen at Ambrose Gravel Pit 
on Route 113 in Sandwich on the 9th, 50 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Morrill’s 
Farm in Penacook on the 9th, 35 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at Tullando Farm in 
Orford on the 11th, 20 were seen at Mount Cranmore in North Conway on the 
10th, and 5 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at The Basin in North Chatham on the 
8th.



A GRAY JAY was seen in East Colebrook, and 2 were seen in Errol, all on 
November 11th, and a SPRUCE GROUSE was reported from Mount Cardigan on 
November 10th.



RAPTOR migration is under way with over 11,000 migrating raptors reported 
from the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and 
over 11,800 reported from the Carter Hill Observatory in Concord, all since 
September 1st.
