This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, May 22nd, 2017.
A male PAINTED BUNTING was seen and photographed in Littleton on May 13th
and 15th, but has not been reported since then.
A GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER was reported from Canterbury on May 16th, but has
not been relocated.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was seen in the fields adjacent to NH Audubon’s
McLane Center on Silk Farm Road in Concord on May 22nd.
A LONG-EARED OWL was heard in Coos County on May 20th.
2 BLACK VULTURES were seen at Mount Wantastiquet in Hinsdale on May 22nd.
2 MISSISSIPPI KITES were seen in Newmarket several times during the last
week and were last reported on May 22nd.
An immature male KING EIDER was seen off of Pulpit Rocks in Rye on May 13th.
It was later seen at several nearby locations, and was last reported on the
21st.
A few sightings of mainly single THICK-BILLED MURRES were seen off the coast
of Rye and at the Isles of Shoals during the past week. The last report was
on May 22nd. A RAZORBILL was seen at Pulpit Rocks in Rye, and a BLACK
GUILLEMOT was seen in Rye Harbor, both on May 17th.
An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON was first seen in Errol near the Androscoggin
River on May 5th, and was last reported from the same area on the 16th.
A COMMON GALLINULE was seen at the MacDowell Reservoir in Peterborough on
May 17th.
2 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS were seen in Hampton Marsh on May 17th, and 2 were
seen at Star Island in the Isles of Shoals on May 21st.
Birders on a boat trip to the Isles of Shoals saw 6 RED KNOTS and 2
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES on May 22nd.
A CASPIAN TERN was seen at the Connecticut River in Hindale, and a FORSTER’S
TERN was seen along the coast, both on May 18th.
Nearly 200 BRANT were seen migrating along the coast on May 17th, and
several small flocks of WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen at inland lakes
during the past week.
7 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were reported from the Keene Airport in Swanzey on
May 18th, 7 were reported from the Cemetery Fields in Amherst on the 20th,
and 4 were reported from the Concord Airport on the 18th.
A PURPLE MARTIN was seen in Merrimack on May 17th.
4 ORCHARD ORIOLES were seen at the Pickering Ponds in Rochester on May 17th.
A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH was reported from Seabrook on May 19th, and a BICKNELL’S
THRUSH was reported from the White Mountains on the 21st.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen on the Little Cherry Pond trail at the
Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on May 16th.
A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen in Brookfield on May 19th.
A few migrating COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were reported during the past week.
5 BLUE-WINGED WARBLERS were seen at Southwest Park in Nashua on May 17th.
There were several sightings of CAPE MAY WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER,
TENNESSEE WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, MOURNING WARBLER, and WILSON’S WARBLER
during the past week.
Several PHILADELPHIA VIREOS, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS, and YELLOW-BELLIED
FLYCATCHERS were seen during the past week.
