This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, September 28th,
2015.
A LAZULI BUNTING was seen on Star Island, one of the Isles of Shoals, on
September 26th, but has not been relocated. A LARK SPARROW was seen on Star
Island on the 26th and 27th.
A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continues to be seen near the hawk watch platform at
the Carter Hill orchard in Concord on September 26th and 27th.
A SWAINSON’S HAWK was seen from Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on September
22nd.
A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen from Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on September
28th, and there was an unconfirmed report of a GOLDEN EAGLE seen flying in
Durham on the 24th.
Several NORTHERN FULMARS and CORY’S SHEARWATERS were seen from Star Island
on September 26th and 27th.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen in Rye on September 26th.
13 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen from Pack Monadnock on September 24th.
A HUDSONIAN GODWIT was seen in Hampton Harbor on September 21st.
10 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, a SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 15
LEAST SANDPIPERS, a SORA, and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen at World End Pond
in Salem on September 28th.
An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on
September 27th, and 1 was reported from Pack Monadnock in Peterborough on
the 28th.
A CAPE MAY WARBLER was seen in Webster, and a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was seen
in South Sutton, both on September 26th.
A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen in Rumney on September 22nd.
18 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen along Locke Road in Concord on September 26th.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER and a BOREAL CHICKADEE were seen in Pittsburg on
September 25th.
3 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen in Sunapee on September 28th.
A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen in Sunapee on September 23rd.
An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen in Meredith on September 27th.
There was an unconfirmed report of a BRANT from Gofftown on September 23rd.
RAPTOR migration is under way with migrating raptors being counted daily at
the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and at the
Carter Hill Observatory in Concord. Pack Monadnock reported 3,556 raptors on
September 21st, 1,301 raptors on the 22nd, 1,917 raptors on the 23rd, and
471 raptors on the 25th. Carter Hill reported 635 raptors on September 21st,
1,473 raptors on the 23rd, 759 raptors on the 25th, and 499 on the 26th. Be
sure to visit these New Hampshire Audubon staffed observatories this fall
season to help out with the counts!
