This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, February 29th, 
2016.



A SANDHILL CRANE was seen flying overhead in Rochester on February 28th.



A SNOWY OWL was seen at Rye Harbor State Park on February 26th, and 1 was 
seen in Seabrook on the 27th. When viewing a Snowy Owl please do not disturb 
the bird by approaching too closely, and please respect private property.

A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen flying over Holderness on February 23rd.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at the Pease International Tradeport in 
Portsmouth on February 27th, and 1 was seen along Kearsarge Mountain Road in 
Wilmot on the 29th.



A GLAUCOUS GULL continues to be seen at the Seabrook side of Hampton Harbor, 
and a GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at Pickering Ponds in Rochester on February 
28th.



3 ICELAND GULLS were seen at Hedgehog Pond in Salem on February 23rd, and 1 
was seen in Rye on the 25th.



A RAZORBILL was seen off the coast in Rye, and 9 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen 
in Rye Harbor, all on February 27th.



A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen on the Androscoggin River in Errol on 
February 23rd, and a female was seen on Great Bay on the 27th.



A female REDHEAD was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant and a 
male REDHEAD was seen on Great Bay several times during the past week.



4 NORTHERN PINTAILS were seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on 
February 25th, and a pair was seen in Stratham on the 27th.



A male AMERICAN WIGEON was seen in Nashua on February 26th.



A pair of WOOD DUCKS was seen in Peterborough on February 28th, and a pair 
was seen in Salem on the 25th.



5 RED CROSSBILLS, 7 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and 9 EVENING GROSBEAKS were 
seen on Chickwolnepy Road in Milan on February 27th.



12 GRAY JAYS, 5 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 7 PINE GROSBEAKS, 200 PURPLE FINCHES, 12 
RED CROSSBILLS, 17 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, 9 COMMON REDPOLLS, 3 EVENING 
GROSBEAKS, 400 PINE SISKINS, a BALD EAGLE, and a NORTHERN GOSHAWK were 
reported from Pittsburg during the past week.



A RED CROSSBILL pair was seen in Errol, and 2 male WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS 
were seen in Shelburne, all on February 23rd.



BOHEMIAN WAXWING sightings from the past week included: 350 in 
Moultonborough on February 23rd, 175 in New London on the 24th, 150 in 
Gorham on the 26th, 42 in Dixville on the 27th, 40 in North Conway on the 
28th, 35 in Franconia on the 24th, 35 in Hanover on the 26th, 20 in 
Holderness on the 23rd, and 11 in Milan on the 27th.



3 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen in Holderness on February 23rd.



There were scattered sightings of small numbers of TURKEY VULTURES during 
the past week, with a highlight being a flock of 40 in Durham on February 
29th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on February 26th, 
and 1 was seen in Nashua on the 25th. Single RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were 
reported from Dover and Webster during the past week.



2 NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS were reported during the past week.



A KILLDEER was seen in Dover on February 28th, and 1 was seen in Durham on 
the 29th. An EASTERN PHOEBE was reported from Hollis on February 23rd, a 
HERMIT THRUSH was seen in North Conway on the 29th, and an EASTERN TOWHEE 
was seen in East Kingston on the 27th.



Several FISH CROWS, RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS, and COMMON GRACKLES were reported 
during the past week.
