This past week we have seen the return of a Killdeer, several Song Sparrows, Common Grackle, Red-Shouldered Hawk, a pair of Mallards in the irrigation pond and lots of Robins. Approximately 100 Pine Siskins remain. I am pretty sure I heard our Merlin. The usual suspects abound.
On another note, this past Thursday after a fun bike ride on river road in Orford/Lyme, we visited Reeds Marsh. We saw several pairs of Wood Ducks, lots of Canadian Geese splashing around, with bottoms up. The highlight was a beaver churning through the water(they are fast), meeting another beaver, splashing around, swimming back and drying itself near a large, unidentified turtle.
Janet saw several Hooded Mergansers in the wetland near the former Camp Norway by Lake Fairlee. By the way, the ice is almost out. More to come.
