This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, April 24th,
2017.
2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen at Sherman’s Farm fields in East Conway on April
21st, and 1 was seen in along the Barrington Trail in Strafford on the 20th.
A CATTLE EGRET was seen foraging at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on April 22nd,
23rd, and 24th.
A flock of 44 GLOSSY IBIS was seen along the coast on April 20th, and up to
4 GLOSSY IBIS were seen along Potato and Switchback Roads near Route 4 in
Canaan during the past week.
3 AMERICAN BITTERNS were seen near the Keene Airport in Swanzey on April
18th, and 2 were seen at Great Meadow in Brookline on the 20th.
A BLACK VULTURE was seen with a flock of TURKEY VULTURES in the Keene area
on April 22nd, and 1 was reported from Derry on the 19th.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen along Pingree Road in Merrimack on April 20th.
A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was seen visiting a suet feeder in Exeter on April
18th.
A pair of BARROW’S GOLDENEYES was seen above the Androscoggin River dam in
Errol on April 17th, 20th, and 21st.
600 COMMON EIDERS were seen in Portsmouth Harbor on April 22nd.
4 RAZORBILLS were seen off of Little Boar’s Head in North Hampton on April
22nd.
A RED-NECKED GREBE and a HORNED GREBE were seen on Newfound Lake on April
18th.
A GADWALL was seen near the mouth of Mink Brook in Hanover on April 18th,
and 3 BUFFLEHEADS were seen at Canaan Street Lake in Canaan on the 19th.
A pair of PIPING PLOVERS was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on April 23rd,
and
92 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen on the jetty there on April 22nd.
3 UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen at the Pease International Tradeport in
Portsmouth on April 22nd.
A LESSER YELLOWLEGS was seen near the Charlestown Wastewater Treatment Plant
on April 18th. A SPOTTED SANDPIPER was seen at World End Pond in Salem, and
several WILLETS were reported from the coast, all on April 22nd.
A BONAPARTE’S GULL was seen on the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on April
20th, and 5 were seen at Dover Point in Dover on the 22nd.
There were a number of inland sightings of migrant DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS
during the past week.
A RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD was reported from Brookline on April 24th.
A CLIFF SWALLOW was reported during the past week.
A YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, and several BLUE-HEADED VIREOS were reported during
the past week.
Warbler species reported during the past week included: BLACK-THROATED GREEN
WARBLER, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, OVRNBIRD, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, LOUISIANA
WATERTHRUSH, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, PINE WARBLER, and PALM WARBLER.
Also reported during the past week were: EASTERN KINGBIRD, GREAT-CRESTED
FLYCATCHER, MARSH WREN, HOUSE WREN, and EASTERN WHIP-POOR-WILL.
A VESPER SPARROW was seen in Pittsburg on April 17th, and 1 was reported
from Orford on the 20th.
A pair of MERLINS was seen several times in Orford during the past week.
