This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for February 18, 2008 covering the
period February 11 - 17, 2008.

 

Highlights this week include a COMMON LOON at Charlotte Town Beach on 2/17,
a DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT at the Charlotte Ferry Landing on 2/16; a
THREE-TOED WOODPECKER in Berkshire 2/10 and 2/12; and the first sightings of
RUSTY BLACKBIRDS - a pair in Danby on 2/11 and 2 in East Dorset on 2/17 and
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS ( 2 in Danby on 2/11). 

 

Five MUTE SWANS were still on Lake Wantastiquet in Vernon as of 2/16.  

 

A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen along Route 7 north of Middlebury perched on top
of a roadside telephone pole on 2/12, in Burlington chasing a flock of
pigeons on 2/16 and in Weybridge on 2/17.

 

A BELTED KINGFISHER was seen and heard in Hartland on 2/12.

 

A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and a NORTHERN FLICKER were seen repeatedly
throughout the week at a Brandon feeder.  

 

BOHEMIAN and to a lesser degree CEDAR WAXWINGS continue to be reported
throughout Vermont.

 

PINE GROSBEAKS and COMMON REDPOLLS are also still being spotted regularly
throughout the state.

 

Six RED CROSSBILLS visited a feeder in Newport on 2/12.
