For those of you who miss our spring and summer birds, I put a photo with 73
individual birds representing 65 different species at
http://www.gigapan.org/gigapans/41221/
This is a “created” image with the birds hidden in a background of crushed
plastic. When you get to the image, pan around, zoom in, or click on a
thumbnail and wait for the resolution to download.

If you register (free) you can take a “snapshot” of individual birds in this
image.   If you do, please label the snapshot with the bird’s common name.
Unfortunately several snapshots have already been made with incorrect
identifications.  I believe this is partly due to the fact that some western
species looks somewhat like our eastern species.  You can add comments to
correct incorrect IDs.

Extra credit:  Can you name the five species that have more than one
individual in the image?

While you are at the Gigapan site you can see some amazing (and very large)
panoramas done by others (click “most Popular”) .  Mine (under
jimblockphoto) are very small in comparison.

I hope you enjoy this winter diversion.
