This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, August 24th, 
2015.



3 BLACK TERNS were seen in the Hampton Harbor area on August 21st, and 2 
were seen in Eel Pond in Rye on the 24th.



An immature LITTLE BLUE HERON continues to be seen in coastal marshes and 
was last reported on the west side of Route 1A opposite Wallis Sands, on 
August 23rd.



An adult and 2 immature YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were reported from 
coastal Hampton on several days during the past week. They were mainly seen 
in the marshes adjacent to Hampton Harbor.



A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, a WESTERN SANDPIPER, 2 CASPIAN TERNS, and 2 
LAUGHING GULLS were seen along the shore and coast, just south of Odiorne 
Point State Park in Rye on August 24th.



An ARCTIC TERN and a RED KNOT were seen in Hampton Harbor on August 23rd.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen in Eel Pond in Rye on August 23rd.



A WESTERN SANDPIPER was seen in Hampton Harbor on August 21st, and 1 was 
seen in Rye Harbor on the 22nd.



A “WESTERN” WILLET was seen in the Little River Saltmarsh in North Hampton 
on August 22nd.



A LAUGHING GULL, a WHIMBREL, and 3 PIPING PLOVERS were seen in Hampton 
Harbor on August 22nd.



A RED PHALAROPE, 53 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and a BLACK TERN were seen in the 
waters between Portsmouth Harbor and the Isles of Shoals on August 24th.



Birders on the Granite State Whale Watch cruises out of Rye during the past 
week reported: a SOOTY SHEARWATER, a MANX SHEARWATERS, 10 GREAT SHEARWATERS, 
and 12 CORY'S SHEARWATERS on August 18th, and 4 CORY'S SHEARWATERS, 25 GREAT 
SHEARWATERS, 150 WILSON'S STORM PETRELS, 50 NORTHERN GANNETS, 2 RED-NECKED 
PHALAROPES, an EASTERN KINGBIRD, a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, and a YELLOW 
WARBLER on the 23rd.



A CORY’S SHEARWATER was seen sitting on the water just outside the entrance 
to Hampton Harbor on August 21st.



A juvenile BLACK GUILLEMOT was seen in Hampton Harbor on August 21st.



2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen in Nashua on August 19th, and 2 GREAT 
EGRETS were seen in Orford on the 20th.



2 adult FISH CROWS were seen feeding 2 juvenile FISH CROWS in coastal North 
Hampton on August 22nd.



At least 2 PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen in Nashua on August 19th.



A RED CROSSBILL, and 2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were reported from the 
Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge on August 17th,



A BICKNELL’S THRUSH, a BOREAL CHICKADEE, and GRAY JAY were reported from the 
Caps Ridge Trail in Jefferson Notch on August 23rd, and 2 SPRUCE GROUSE were 
seen here on the 17th.



A TENNESSEE WARBLER, an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, and 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were 
reported from Bethlehem on August 22nd.



COMMON NIGHTHAWKS have started their annual migration south, and there were 
numerous sightings reported during the past week, with the greatest numbers 
reported from Concord, including 168 on August 19th, 348 on the 22nd, and 
721 on the 24th. Additionally, 301 were reported from Hancock on the 24th.



Over 5,000 TREE SWALLOWS were tallied migrating south along the coast in 
Seabrook on August 21st.
