This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Tuesday, October 16th, 
2012.



An EARED GREBE was found in Rye Harbor on October 7th, and was seen there 
again several times, most recently on the 13th and 14th.



A BLUE GROSBEAK was discovered at the Concord Community Gardens on Birch 
Street, a dirt road located behind the South Concord Condominiums on Clinton 
Street. The bird was seen along the row of trees at the back of the gardens 
on October 13th, and again on the 14th. An INDIGO BUNTING, a TENNESSEE 
WARBLER, a RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD, a BROWN THRASHER, and 7 AMERICAN 
PIPITS were also seen there on the 13th.



A DICKCISSEL, a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, an "IPSWICH" SAVANNAH SPARROW, and a 
BOBOLINK were seen in "weedy" habitat along River Road in Stratham on 
October 13th.



A DICKCISSEL was seen at Morrill's Farm in Penacook on October 14th. Also 
present were a late-migrating WILSON'S WARBLER, 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, 45 
AMERICAN PIPITS, and 4 WILSON'S SNIPE.



A DICKCISSEL was seen at Elm Brook Park in West Hopkinton on October 14th. 
It was seen with WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS feeding at the eastern base of the 
long dike. This location can be accessed from Exit 6 on Route 89.



A GOLDEN EAGLE, 3 BALD EAGLES, over 50 RING-NECKD DUCKS, 2 GRAY JAYS, 2 
EVENING GROSBEAKS, and 5 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were reported from the Errol and 
Lake Umbagog areas during the past week.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was reported from near Lake Francis in Pittsburg 
on October 14th.



179 BRANT, and 423 PINE SISKINS were tallied along the coast on October 
13th.



6 BRANT and 4 LESSER SCAUP were seen on Goose Pond in Canaan, and an 
intermediate-plumaged BRANT was seen on Surry Mountain Lake, both on the 
14th.



4 RED-NECKED GREBES, and 6 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were seen on Spofford Lake 
in Chesterfield on October 13th.



A RED-NECKED GREBE was seen on Mink Brook on October 12th, and 2 SWAINSON'S 
THRUSHES were seen on the 11th, all at the Mink Brook conservancy property 
in Hanover.



A PIED-BILLED GREBE was seen in Little Post Pond at the Chaffee Wildlife 
Sanctuary in Lyme on October 11th.



2 RUDDY DUCKS, 7 AMERICAN COOTS, 23 PIED-BILLED GREBES, and a BALD EAGLE 
were seen at Powwow Pond in Kingston on October 12th.



7 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 6 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 25 RING-NECKED DUCKS, a BALD 
EAGLE, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS, an EASTERN PHOEBE, 9 
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, a HERMIT THRUSH, a GRAY CATBIRD, 5 PALM WARBLERS, and 
5 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were seen at the Pondicherry National Wildlife 
Refuge in Jefferson on October 14th, and 2 HORNED GREBES, and 2 RUSTY 
BLACKBIRDS were seen here on the 8th.



A NORTHERN PINTAIL and a WILSON'S SNIPE were seen at the Exeter Wastewater 
Treatment Plant on October 16th.



A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen along the coast on 
October 13th.



An AMERICAN BITTERN was seen at Plaice Cove in Hampton on October 13th.



3 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS were seen in Hampton on October 13th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen in Salem on October 11th.



A late-migrating CLIFF SWALLOW was seen at Bicentennial Hampton on October 
13th.



A late-migrating TENNESSEE WARBLER was seen in Merrimack on October 16th.



A NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, a BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, a RUSTY BLACKBIRD, 
and an EVENING GROSBEAK were all reported from a private residence in 
Pittsfield on October 14th.



A late-migrating NASHVILLE WARBLE was seen along Iron Works Road in Concord 
on October 14th.



8 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 17 TURKEY VULTURES, 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, an AMERICAN 
WOODCOCK, a SWAINSON'S THRUSH, a GRAY CATBIRD, 5 AMERICAN PIPITS, 3 RUSTY 
BLACKBIRDS, and 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen at Copps Pond in Tuftonboro on 
October 13th.



50 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at Boggy Meadow Farm in Walpole, and 30 
AMERICAN PIPITS and 3 KILLDEER were seen at Chickering Farm in Westmoreland, 
all on October 13th.



A flock of about 50 AMERICAN PIPITS was reported from the UNH Dairy Barns on 
October 15th.



A FOX SPARROW was seen in Durham on October 16th.



12 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS were reported from a private residence in Hollis on 
October 15th.



RAPTOR migration is under way with over 11,185 raptors(including a SWAINSON'S 
HAWK on September 10th, and a GOLDEN EAGLE on October 15th) already reported 
from the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough, and 
nearly 6,333(including a BLACK VULTURE on September 21st, a GOLDEN EAGLE on 
October 6th, and a GOLDEN EAGLE on October 16th) reported from the Carter 
Hill Observatory in Concord, all since August 25th. Be sure to visit these 
observatories this fall season to help out with the count!
