This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, March 5th, 
2009.



A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was found in Center Harbor on January 12th, and was most 
recently reported on March 1st. It has been seen from Route 25 in trees near 
the Canoe Restaurant, located just west of the downtown area. To view the 
bird, birders should park in the church lot on Main Street near the start of 
Coe Hill Road and walk along Route 25. If you are coming from the west, 
drive about 100 yards or so past the Canoe Restaurant and turn left. The 
parking lot will be right in front of you, across Main Street. Please 
respect private property. The bird was originally being seen about 1-mile 
west from the town center on Coe Hill Road where a NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen 
on February 28th.



A SNOWY OWL was seen in Hampton Marsh from Route 1, south of Route 101, on 
February 27th. A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was seen at the NH Audubon 
Burrows-Brookside Sanctuary in South Hampton on February 28th.



A THICK-BILLED MURRE and a male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were seen from the south 
side of Great Boar's Head in Hampton on March 1st. A BLACK GUILLEMOT was 
seen from Little Boar's Head in North Hampton on March 1st, and was seen 
from Pulpit Rocks in Rye on February 28th.



A HOARY REDPOLL, a flock of COMMON REDPOLLS, a flock of EVENING GROSBEAKS, 
and several PINE GROSBEAKS were all seen visiting bird feeders on 
Chickwolnepy Road in Milan on February 27th.



5 PINE GROSBEAKS were seen on the south side of the Silver Cultural Arts 
Center in Plymouth, and 20 were seen at the AMC Pinkham Notch Camp, all on 
February 26th



3 PINE GROSBEAKS and a GRAY JAY were seen at the Pondicherry National 
Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on February 28th.



A flock of 58 EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen in Jefferson on February 28th, and 
a flock of 18 were seen on Hammond Hollow Road in Gilsum on March 4th.



75 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen on Maple Avenue in Keene on March 4th, 25 
were seen in Berlin on the 2nd, 55 were seen on Quincy Road in Rumney on the 
1st, 25 were seen on Clinton Street in Concord on the 1st, 26 were seen in 
Penacook on the 1st, 75 were seen in Meredith on the 1st, and 60 were seen 
on Mountain Road in Concord on February 28th.



A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on February 27th.



A BOREAL CHICKADEE, first located on January 3rd, was still present visiting 
bird feeders near the Kalwall Corporation offices on 40 River Road in Bow on 
February 28th.



4 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 5 WOOD DUCKS, 193 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 100 HOODED 
MERGANSERS, and 71 COMMON MERGANSERS were seen on and around Lake 
Wantastiquet in Hinsdale on February 27th.



A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen on Kimball Road in Kensington on February 28th, 
one was seen in Lyme Center on the 27th, and one was seen at the Exeter 
Wastewater Treatment Plant, also on the 27th.



A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen on the Mary Baker Eddy Church in Concord on 
March 3rd, and one was seen in Hampton on the water tower off of Route 101 
on February 27th. A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen in Windham on March 1st.



A GRAY CATBIRD was seen in Hampton on March 3rd.



There have been scattered sightings of PINE SISKINS, COMMON REDPOLLS, 
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, SNOW BUNTINGS, TURKEY VULTURES, and HORNED LARKS 
from coastal and inland sites during the past week.
