In Norwich today, one pair of American Kestrels was in the fields along Campbell Flat Road and another pair at the horse farm on nearby Hogback Road.  Meanwhile a third pair was in a field along the west side of Stevens Road near the intersection with Rabbit Road. The first two sites are in the northeastern corner of Norwich, while the third location is not far away in Thetford, roughly a half mile from the Norwich boundary.

The placement in that neighborhood of nest boxes built for kestrels appears to be helping to attract the birds. It's encouraging to see these birds. The species as a whole has in recent years been declining in abundance and is the subject of a feature article and cover photo for the Spring 2023 issue of Audubon magazine.
