The full complement of breeding species were back on Pico Peak yesterday
morning. VCE's Birdathon team camped out in the GMC hut at 3400'
elevation on Sunday night, then hiked the 1/4 mile to the summit at
dawn. In addition to expected regulars like Winter Wren, American
Robin, Yellow-rumped Warbler, White-throated Sparrow, and Dark-eyed
Junco were:
Yellow-bellied Flycatcher - 1
Bicknell's Thrush - 5
Swainson's Thrush - 6
Magnolia Warbler - 3
Blackpoll Warbler - 9
Pine Siskin - 3
No Ruby-crowned Kinglets, Purple Finches, or crossbills, and
surprisingly few red squirrels given last fall's bountiful cone crop.
