Sounds like a happening. Well, it was!

Norwich, Vt. -Tigertown Rd. Feeder and property report

We had a nice visit from a male Pileated Woodpecker yesterday, carving out
holes in nearby dead poplars. Then, on a snowshoe in the woods, we
encountered a Ruffed Grouse who burst up out of a hole in the snow. We've
seen them last week too, and I posted a photo of the wing marks and holes on
the ebird photo list:

Lots of nice photos there!

Also seen yesterday: (Sun. 2/1/09)

23 pine siskins
11 goldfinch
5 male purple finch, 2 female
7-10 chickadees
1 Downy M
1m 1 f Hairy
3 BJ
1 WB nuthatch
1 RB nuthatch
2 redpolls
 4 doves

about average for a day at the feeders here. Have had 4 Redpolls once, but
they are scarce this year.

Happy birding

Cindy
