Yesterday (Monday with all the snow) was an amazing bird day in my back
yard, not just the variety of birds but their continual presence over
several hours. In addition to the 3 robins, 4 redwing blackbirds and
countless grackles were a flock of siskins (20 or so) and more sparrows than
I could keep track of. At least 4 song sparrows, 3 tree sparrows, 3 fox
sparrows, 2 field sparrows.
As the regular visitors were also present, we were very entertained (12
chickadees, 15 goldfinches, 20 juncos, 2 titmice, 1 white breasted nuthatch,
1 downy and 1 hairy woodpecker, 2 cardinals, 9 mourning doves, 5 blue jays,
3 crows and a few starlings)
The goldfinches look much yellower now than they appeared during the winter,
almost their summer plumage.
