On this fine mid November morning about 20 participants joined in a bird walk at Lake Runnemede in Windsor, VT, as arranged by the Windsor County 2015 Birding Quest. Some highlights from the more than two dozen species found are as follows. Five species of waterfowl included Canada Geese flocks, Mallards, American Black Ducks, a lingering Gadwall, and Hooded Mergansers. Three Northern Flickers were seen, and Pileated Woodpecker vocalizations heard repeatedly. At least a few Eastern Bluebirds were present and some seen while perched on birdhouses as though prospecting for next spring. Sparrow species included especially Tree and Song Sparrows as well as juncos. A White-throated Sparrow was seen and heard. Purple Finches, Pine Siskins, and Evening Grosbeak were present as were a few dozen American Goldfinches.

Special thanks go to coleaders Spencer Hardy, Ed Hack, Ken Cox, and Chris Rimmer, and to Spencer for keeping records while afield.

A smaller number of participants continued birding after the regular walk. From the top of the gated road ramp leading to the Kilowatt South boat launch in Hartford, VT, Mallards and Hooded Mergansers were seen on the water, and a Bald Eagle flew by. Later, from Foley Park by the Ledyard Bridge in Norwich, VT, both Hooded and Common Mergansers were seen.
