This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, July 15th,
2009.
A SABINE'S GULL, a LITTLE GULL, a BLACK-HEADED GULL, a CASPIAN TERN, 4 LEAST
TERNS, 3 ROSEATE TERNS, and 2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were all reported
from Hampton Harbor on July 11th.
An immature LITTLE GULL and120 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were reported from
Bicentennial Park in Hampton on July 12th. A possible second LITTLE GULL was
reported from Jenness Beach in Rye, also on the 12th.
An immature BLACK-HEADED GULL and 2 LEAST TERNS were seen in Hampton Harbor
on July 12th.
An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was seen on the north end of Hampton Beach on July
8th.
There have been an impressive number of birds seen in New Hampshire waters
on whale watch trips during the past week. Highlights included: 3 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES and a PARASITIC JAEGER on July 14th; a BLACK TERN, 40 CORY'S
SHEARWATERS, 1,500 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 200 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, a MANX
SHEARWATER, 500 WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, and 25 NORTHERN GANNETS on the 12th;
and a NORTHERN FULMAR, and 27 WHIMBRELS on the 9th.
A WHIMBREL was seen on Squam Lake on July 9th.
A SNOWY OWL was seen along Bog Road in Stratford on July 9th. Could this
have been a recently released rehabilitated bird?
A CATTLE EGRET was reported from Bear Hill Road in Chichester on July 13th.
2 pairs of MISSISSIPPI KITES have been located in Newmarket near the same 2
sites where they nested in 2008. 2 were seen from Route 152, near the school
that is located a short distance west of Packers Falls Road, on June 28th.
A FISH CROW was reported from Durham on July 14th.
A PIED-BILLED GREBE was reported from the Nashua River in Nashua on July
15th.
