Numerous days I week I take a 1-11/2 hour walk around the wetland on
Houghton Hill in Thetford. This is a well deserved UV Land Trust property.
There is a green gate, and trail that starts
To the right of that. Gate is about half mile north on HH Rd, from RT 132 in
Thetford (Hill).
Yesterdays first was a Red-shouldered Hawk. Havent seen one is a few
years. Good looks with its wing windows, barred tail, shape, size, colors.
Yesterdays count was 32 species. Today's was 28. Flicker was new today,
Hooded Merg w/ 7 tiny fuzzy chicks, Vi Rail (vocalizing), Pine Warbler, Wood
Duck (male, I was so close I didn't use binocs), Hermit Thrush, Ea Kingbird
and Bh Vireo. (40 for 2 days)
Yest (Saturday) highlights were:
Am Bittern.. spectacular looks of it singing its "gullump" and bill
warm-up.
Warblers: redstart, Ovenb, No Parula, Co Yellowthr, Blackburnian (good
looks), Bl Thr Blue
Sparrows: White-thr, Song and Swamp (a bunch !)
Great-cr Flycatcher .. great looks ! Ea Wood Peewee
Cedar Waxwings, Tree Swallows, nuthatches, red-eyed vireo, Sc Tanager, Gray
Catb, MoDo, Bh Cowb, Winter Wren, Brown Creeper, Even Grosbeak.
RWBB, grackle
Viceroy and White Admiral at home in Thetford too.
