This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, February 4th,
2019.
A GOLDEN EAGLE continues to be seen along Chickering Road in Westmoreland,
and was last reported on February 1st. A flock of 5 BALD EAGLES was seen in
Westmoreland on January 31st.
A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen flying over Seabrook marsh on February 1st.
A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in Newington, and a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen in
Berlin, all on January 31st.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen in Newport on February 2nd.
An adult male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was seen in Great Bay from Adam’s Point in
Durham on February 2nd and 3rd.
A GLAUCOUS GULL continues to be seen at Hampton Harbor and was last reported
on February 2nd.
A flock of 65 COMMON REDPOLLS was seen in Newport on February 3rd, and a
flock of 15 was seen in Enfield on February 4th.
A flock of 28 COMMON REDPOLLS, and a flock of 70 SNOW BUNTINGS were all seen
at the Pease International Tradeport in Portsmouth on February 2nd. An
AMERICAN KESTREL was seen here on January 30th.
A flock of 23 SNOW BUNTINGS, and 2 LESSER SCAUP were seen at the Exeter
Wastewater Treatment Plant on February 2nd. The treatment plant is only open
to birders on the weekends.
A flock of 40 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was seen in New London, a flock of 70 was
seen in Sunapee, a flock of 30 was seen in North Conway, and a flock of 50
was seen in Gorham, all foraging on crabapple trees during the past week.
A flock of 21 PINE GROSBEAKS was seen in Newport on February 2nd, a flock of
10 was seen in New London on January 28th, a flock of 24 was seen in West
Lebanon on February 3rd, and a flock of 9 was seen in Newbury on February
3rd.
A few flocks of EVENING GROSBEAKS were reported from scattered locations
during the past week.
A LAPLAND LONGSPUR was seen on Pinnacle Lane in Walpole on January 30th, and
1 was seen in at the Keene Airport in Swanzey on February 1st. A flock of 30
HORNED LARKS was reported from Walpole on February 3rd.
A flock of 18 TURKEY VULTURES was seen roosting at Sanborn Street in Exeter
on February 2nd.
A YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was seen again in Kingston on February 2nd.
Lingering migrant species reported during the past week included: RED-WINGED
BLACKBIRD, BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD, WINTER WREN, TURKEY VULTURE, RED-SHOULDERED
HAWK, NORTHERN FLICKER, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, SAVANNAH SPARROW, FOX
SPARROW, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW(away from the coast), and WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW.
