On our noon walk in Hanover, Blackburnian Warblers were back today on
their usual territory in the tall pines between above the tennis
courts at Storrs Pond. Black-throated Green Warblers were singing
nearby. A Northern Waterthrush was next to the sluggish water near
the tennis courts, and a Magnolia Warbler was in the trees bordering
the fast flowing stream where it enters the pond near the swimming
area. Great birds for mid-day in the rain!
As we left Hanover after work, there was a Common Loon just north of
the Ledyard Bridge on the Vermont side of the river.
At home in Weathersfield, Black-throated Blue and Black-throated
Green Warblers were singing. There was a mad house at the feeders
(Goldfinches, House Finches, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Chipping
Sparrows, turkeys (very colorful male), and a Cooper's Hawk buzzing
the diners), the highlight of which was a Field Sparrow displaying
its bright pink bill. Woodcock continue to display along Camp Hill
Road.
