This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, July 13th, 2015.



A WHITE-FACED IBIS was seen in the salt marsh near Huckleberry Lane in 
Hampton on July 5th, and was reported again from coastal marshes on the 
12th. 14 GLOSSY IBIS’ were seen in the Little River salt marsh on July 11th.



2 pairs of MISSISSIPPI KITES are nesting in Newmarket and currently have at 
least 1 chick. The KITES are most often seen flying near Gonet Road in 
Newmarket and 1 was reported from that area on July 12th.



2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen behind the cemetery on Plaines Road in Monroe on 
July 12th.



A pair of LEAST TERNS is nesting on the beach in Hampton Beach State Park, 
where 3 adults and a chick were seen on July 7th.



A few PIPING PLOVERS continued to be reported from Hampton Beach State Park 
and Seabrook Town Beach during the past week. At least 1 of the newly 
hatched chicks, which are the color of beach-sand, accidentally perished 
beneath the feet of pedestrian traffic on the beach – if you visit the 
beach, please keep an eye out for these small hard-to-see birds.



A colony of 13 pairs of PURPLE MARTINS are nesting along Cross Beach Road in 
Seabrook and 8 individuals were observed on July 6th.



An UPLAND SANDPIPER was reported from the Newington side of the Pease 
International Tradeport on July 9th.



7 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were counted at the Cemetery Fields in Amherst on 
July 6th.



2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS, 6 SPRUCE GROUSE, 6 GRAY JAYS, and 4 BOREAL 
CHICKADEES were reported from East Inlet Road in Pittsburg on July 11th.



2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS, a SPRUCE GROUSE, 4 GRAY JAYS, 6 BOREAL 
CHICKADEES, 10 BICKNELL’S THRUSHES, and 5 FOX SPARROWS were reported from 
high-elevation hiking trails on the east side of Crawford Notch in the White 
Mountains on July 11th.



2 BICKNELL’S THRUSHES were reported from the summit area of Cannon Mountain 
in Franconia Notch on July 12th, and there were a few reports of BICKNELL’S 
THRUSHES from hiking trails in the White Mountains during the past week.



2 RED CROSSBILLS were reported from the Nash Stream State Forest on July 
9th.



An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was reported from Lyman on July 13th, and 1 was 
reported from Chatham on the 11th.



3 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in Hillsborough on July 11th.



8 FISH CROWS were tallied in coastal Hampton on July 11th.



A NELSON’S SPARROW was again reported from Philbrick Marsh along Route 1A in 
North Hampton during the past week.
