What a difference a day makes. Yesterday's blustery chill and low
clouds seemed to have grounded a few birds at Kilowatt South Park,
including 2 Black Scoters, 13 Bufflehead and 12 Ring-billed Gulls. There
were 3 immature Bald Eagles soaring together overhead (believe me, I
tried to turn one into a Golden...), and a Northern Flicker feeding on
the ground. This morning, with clear skies and reduced north wind, the
water was almost devoid of birds, except 8 Mallards and 7 Hooded
Mergansers, but landbirds included a N. Mockingbird, 6 Cedar Waxwings, 2
Am. Tree Sparrows, 2 Song Sparrows, a late adult White-crowned Sparrow,
and 7 Pine Siskins.
