This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, September 
25th, 2008.



HAWK migration continues, with over 8,000 raptors reported from the Pack 
Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough since September 1st. 
September 18th was a peak observation day for BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, as over 
2,400 were counted on Pack Monadnock on that day alone! Over 2,000 hawks 
have been reported from the Carter Hill Orchard observation platform in 
Concord since September 1st. Be sure to visit both observatories to help out 
with the count! New Hampshire Audubon staffs both locations.



The MISSISSIPPI KITES that nested in Newmarket were last reported on 
September 17th and appear to have left the area.



A RED PHALAROPE was discovered at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on 
September 19th and was last reported on the 21st. A RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was 
seen off of the coast on the 21st.



A CORY'S SHEARWATER, a probable PARASITIC JAEGER, an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, 
and a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT were some of the highlights from a NH Audubon 
trip to Star Island in Rye on September 21st.



2 CASPIAN TERNS were seen along the coast on September 18th and 19th. They 
were reported from both Rye and Hampton.



A LITTLE GULL was seen at the mouth of Hampton Harbor, and 7 LAUGHING GULLS 
were reported from along the coast, all on September 18th.



37 FORSTER'S TERNS were seen in Hampton Harbor on September 19th.



20 NORTHERN PINTAILS were seen migrating past Odiorne Point State Park in 
Rye on September 20th.



A MARBLED GODWIT and 3 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were seen in Plaice Cove, 
located just north of Bicentennial Park in Hampton, on September 21st.



A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was seen at Rye Harbor State Park on September 21st.



2 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were seen in Hampton Harbor on September 22nd, and 
one was seen at Ragged Neck in Rye on September 24th.



A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and 3 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen in Moore Fields 
located off of Route 155A in Durham on September 21st, and 69 KILLDEER and a 
PECTORAL SANDPIPER were seen here on the 23rd.



A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was seen on Doe Farm in Durham on September 23rd.



An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, and a MOURNING WARBLER were reported from the 
Deer Hill Wildlife Management Area in Brentwood on September 18th.



A PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen at Fogg Drive in Durham on September 23rd.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen at Pickering Ponds in Rochester on September 
22nd, and a BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was seen at Elm Brook Park in Hopkinton on 
September 20th.



2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were seen in Lyme Center on September 23rd.



A BICKNELL'S THRUSH was seen near the summit of North Pack Monadnock on 
September 24th.



A NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye 
on September 20th.



Good numbers of migrating LINCOLN'S SPARROWS were reported from various 
locations around the state during the past week.



A RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD was seen in Hanover on September 23rd.
