This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for August 11, covering the period
August 4 - 10, 2008.  

 

The highlights of the week were the BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE sightings at
Charlotte Town Beach and Grand Isle:  8/5 - 2 juveniles at Charlotte Town
Beach; 8/6 - 1 juvenile, 1 adult and 1 1st summer molting into 2nd winter at
Charlotte Town Beach; 8/7 - 4 on Grand Isle; 8/8 - 1 on Grand Isle and 2
adults and 1 juvenile at Charlotte Town Beach; 8/9 - 3 on Grand Isle and 3
at Charlotte Town Beach; 8/10 - 3 on Grand Isle and 1 at Charlotte Town
Beach.

 

Four SANDHILL CRANES were seen at Bristol Pond on 8/7.

 

On 8/10, eight LEAST SANDPIPERS were observed at Charlotte Town Beach and 6
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS at Dead Creek.

 

A LITTLE GULL was sighted on Grand Isle on 8/8.

 

CASPIAN TERNS were spotted at Shelburne Bay (1 on 8/8), Charlotte Town Beach
(1 on 8/9 and 8/10) and at Dead Creek (1 on 8/5 and 1 on 8/9).

 

A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was seen on Grand Isle on 8/9.

 

Approximately 5,000 SWALLOWS of undetermined species were seen at Dead Creek
on 8/10.

 

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was spotted in East Dorset on 8/5.
