Under sunny skies and cool temperatures (6 degrees to lower twenties)
about 14 observers participated in this morning's eagle watch arranged
by the Mascoma Chapter of NH Audubon at Wilder Dam where a hazy
outline of Mt. Ascutney provided a distant background when looking
downstream across the sparkling waters of the Connecticut River.
Highlights were 2 adult Bald Eagles seen perched at the same time high
in trees downstream. Also present were about 14 Common Mergansers,
about 12 Rock Pigeons, 2 American Crows, and a Black-capped Chickadee.
Not a great variety of birds but at least 2 species not ordinarily
seen at most backyard feeding stations.
