Otto here...
I've been working at a old house surrounded by beautiful ornamental fruit trees, on Pattrell Rd in Norwich (maybe it's Thetford???).
There are loads of young robins and Cedar Waxwings feeding on the fruit. Today I watched young YB Sapsucker "crash land" into the upper branches of crabapple tree to feed on the fruits. He was a little to big for the branches he tried to land on, so he would swing wildly as he grabbed at the apples. I know Sapsuckers aren't uncommon, but this is the first one I've seen in years in Vermont.
Same spot: for the last three days there has been a Scarlet Tanager in the same trees earlier (7:30 am.) I don't see him the rest of the day. Again, I'm sure they aren't uncommon, but I don't see many of them around here.
