This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, May 9th, 
2012.



3 SANDHILL CRANES were heard in Tilton on May 7th, and then later seen in 
Plymouth, but they have not been relocated.



A SUMMER TANAGER was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on May 5th, and 
one was seen and photographed at a private residence in Franklin on May 1st 
and 2nd, but neither bird has been relocated.



A CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was located along Arboretum Drive in Newington on May 
7th. To try to see this bird, travel on Arboretum Drive towards Great Bay 
National Wildlife Refuge and after you pass Short Road on your left, listen 
for the singing bird in the first field on the right.  Please do not play a 
recording. For good views, use a spotting scope and do not approach the 
bird.



A CAPE MAY WARBLER and a TENNESSEE WARBLER were seen in Sandwich on May 7th, 
and a possible CAPE MAY WARBLER was heard in Concord, also on May 7th.



There was an unconfirmed report of a BLUE GROSBEAK visiting a birdfeeder in 
New London on May 3rd.



3 CASPIAN TERNS, 1 BONAPARTE'S GULL, and 10 COMMON LOONS were reported from 
the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on May 9th, a GREEN HERON, a CANADA 
WARBLER, and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW were seen here on May 6th, and a TENNESSEE 
WARBLER was seen here on the 5th.



4 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen in Hampton Harbor on May 9th. Also 
present were 5 COMMON TERNS, 11 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 4 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 
2 SANDERLINGS, and 134 DUNLIN. Elsewhere on the coast were 3 SEMIPALMATED 
SANDPIPERS and 70 LEAST SANDPIPERS.



3 BRANT were seen along the coast in Rye on May 5th.



A NORTHERN SHOVELER was seen from Rye Harbor State Park on May 5th.



A BLUE-WINGED TEAL was seen in Horseshoe Pond in Concord, and 1 was reported 
from Auburn, both on May 5th.



A LESSER SCAUP was seen on Cherry Pond in Jefferson on May 4th.



2 RED-NECKED GREBES, 3 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, and a GREATER SCAUP were seen 
on the Connecticut River at Kilowatt Landing near Lebanon on May 3rd.



100 BLACK SCOTERS were seen from Bicentennial Park in Hampton on May 5th.



A PIPING PLOVER was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on May 4th.



75 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on May 7th.



2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS and a MARSH WREN were seen at the Exeter Wastewater 
Treatment Plant on May 3rd, and a LESSER YELLOWLEGS was seen at Airport 
Marsh in Whitefield on May 4th.



3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were 
tallied at Elm Brook Park in Hopkinton on May 8th. Several CLIFF SWALLOWS 
were also present. A MARSH WREN was heard here on the 6th.



15 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were reported from a wet field area adjacent to the 
Concord Community Gardens on May 9th.



2 GREEN HERONS were seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on May 7th, and 2 
LEAST SANDPIPERS, and 2 WILSON'S SNIPE were seen here on the 5th.


A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen at NH Audubon's Thompson Sanctuary in 
North Sandwich on May 5th, and 2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS were reported from 
Little Cherry Pond in the Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson 
on May 6th.



2 RED CROSSBILLS were seen in Holderness on May 9th.



5 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER were reported from 
Pinkham Notch in the White Mountains on May 4th.



A SORA was heard at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on May 7th, and 1 was 
heard at South End Marsh in Concord on May 5th. 2 SORAS and 2 VIRGINA RAILS 
were heard at the Old Mill Road Wildlife Management Area in Lee on May 5th.



A possible LAWRENCE'S WARBLER was reported from the Lamprey River Preserve 
on Packers Falls Road in Durham on May 6th.



Many warblers were seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on May 7, 
including over 30 NORTHERN PARULAS.



A YELLOWTHOATED VIREO was reported from Dort Road in Surry, 1 was reported 
from Hinsdale, and 2 were reported from Pawtuckaway State Park in 
Nottingham, all on May 6th.



3 CLIFF SWALLOWS were seen along Campton Bog Road in East Rumney on May 9th, 
3 BANK SWALLOWS were seen in Plymouth on May 7th, and several CLIFF and BANK 
SWALLOWS were seen in Hinsdale on May 4th.



An ORCHARD ORIOLE was reported from Westmoreland on May 5th, and 1 was 
reported from Turtle Pond in Concord on May 4th.



A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was heard in Pittsfield on May 5th.



An AMERICAN BITTERN was reported from George Pond in Enfield on May 4th.



BOBOLINKS were reported from Wolfeboro, Hopkinton, Durham, Newmarket, and 
Lebanon during the past week.



20 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS and 5 OSPREY were seen migrating in Hancock on May 
5th.



Nearly all of New Hampshire's regularly occurring VIREOS, THRUSHES, and 
WARBLERS were reported during the past week, many ahead of their usual 
arrival dates.



A pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS is nesting in Manchester and has already begun
