This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, January 15th, 
2014.



SNOWY OWLS continued to be reported in New Hampshire during the past week 
including 2 along the coast in Rye, and 5 in the Hampton and Seabrook marsh 
areas. There was an unconfirmed report of a SNOWY OWL seen along Porter Road 
in Alstead on January 15th.



A RED-HEADED WOODPECKER has been seen on several days visiting a birdfeeder 
in Alstead since about January 1st, and was last reported on the 12th.



A THAYER’S GULL has been seen several times during the past week visiting a 
feeding station at a private residence in East Kingston with over 30 other 
GULLS, including at least 1 ICELAND GULL.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL has been reported from Eel Pond in Rye several 
times during the past week.



A GLAUCOUS GULL and 4 GREAT CORMORANTS were seen on the Nashua River in 
Nashua on January 9th, and 2 GLAUCOUS GULLS were seen in Hampton Harbor on 
the 12th.



At least 4 ICELAND GULLS were seen along the coast, 2 were seen at 
Rockingham Park in Salem, and 1 was seen at Hedgehog Pond in Salem, all 
during the past week.



44 RAZORBILLS were seen along the coast from Little Boar’s Head in North 
Hampton on January 12th.



A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE and 2 females were seen from Stark Landing along 
the Merrimack River in Manchester on January 13th. A male RING-NECKED DUCK 
was also present. A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen in the Merrimack River 
from the boat launch located south of the Bow power plant on the 15th.



2 male CANVASBACKS were seen on Great Bay on January 12th. An AMERICAN COOT 
and a female GREATER SCAUP were seen in Laconia on the 9th.



Several PINE GROSBEAKS were reported from Nashua on January 11th.



12 LAPLAND LONGSPURS were seen at Bicentennial Park in Hampton on January 
8th.



A flock of 10 SNOW BUNTINGS was seen along River Road in Walpole on January 
15th, and a flock of 28 was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on the 11th.



There were a few reports of PEREGRINE FALCON and MERLIN during the past 
week.



3 FISH CROWS were reported from Salem on January 9th.



A BROWN THRASHER was seen in Rye on January 11th, and 1 was seen in Rye on 
the 15th. An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen in Ashland on January 13th.



YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS were reported from Bartlett and Nashua during the 
past week, and a NORTHERN FLICKER was again seen in Bedford, on January 
10th.



8 CAROLINA WRENS were reported from Nashua on January 11th, 1 was seen in 
Peterborough on the 10th, 1 was seen in Sandown on the 12th, and 1 was seen 
in Alstead on the 10th.



A flock of approximately 500 CEDAR WAXWINGS was reported from Dover on 
January 10th.
