This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, August 19th, 
2019.



3 MISSISSIPPI KITE breeding territories, one each in Durham, Newmarket, and 
Stratham were established this year. The easiest birds to see are in Durham, 
usually along Madbury Road near Maple Street, and they were last reported 
from there on August 16th.



A TRUMPETER SWAN was discovered at NH Audubon’s Abe Emerson Marsh in Candia 
on April 13th and continues being seen there. It was last reported on August 
15th.



An AMERICAN AVOCET was seen in Rye Harbor and the surrounding area salt 
marshes on August 17th and 18th.



2 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS were seen on Star Island, one of the Isles of 
Shoals, on August 15th.



A MARBLED GODWIT was seen in Hampton Harbor on August 13th and 14th.



A LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER was seen in the Hampton Salt Marsh Conservation Area 
on August 12th and 14th.



A RED KNOT was seen in Hampton Harbor on August 17th and 18th.



2 BAIRD’S SANDPIPERS were seen along the coast in Rye on August 17th, and 
18th, and 1 was seen inland in Rochester on the 19th.



At least 3 WESTERN SANDPIPERS were seen in coastal Hampton during the past 
week.



5 UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen from Short Road at the Pease International 
Tradeport on August 16th, and 7 WHIMBRELS were seen along the coast on the 
17th.



2 FORSTER’S TERNS were seen in Hampton Harbor, and a possible ROYAL TERN was 
seen in coastal Hampton, all on August 13th. An ARCTIC TERN was seen along 
the coast in Rye on the 16th.



3 MANX SHEARWATERS, 2 CORY’S SHEARWATERS, 12 PARASITIC JAEGERS, and 2 
LAUGHING GULLS were all seen along the coast on August 17th. Birders on 
whale-watch cruises off of the coast have also reported numerous 
SHEARWATERS.



2 YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS were seen in marshes just south of Rye Harbor 
on August 17th, 3 were seen in Seabrook on the 18th, and 1 was seen in North 
Mill Pond in Portsmouth on the 13th. A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was seen in 
Field’s Grove City Park in Nashua on August 15th.



A GREAT EGRET was seen in Peterborough, 1 was seen in Nashua, and 1 was seen 
in Hopkinton, all during the past week.



A NORTHERN SHOVELER was seen off of the coast of Rye foraging with a flock 
of COMMON EIDER on August 18th.



A DICKCISSEL was reported from Hampton on August 17th and 1 was reported 
from Rochester on the 16th.



2 GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were reported from Woodmont Orchard in Hollis on 
August 18th.



A MOURNING WARBLER was seen in Webster on August 15th.



82 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were tallied migrating south in Keene on August 16th, 
and 156 were counted in Concord heading south on the 18th.
