This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Monday, June 30th, 2014.



At least 2 MISSISSIPPI KITES are being seen regularly in Newmarket, where 
they have nested during the past several years.



An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER was discovered off of Bennett Road in Durham on May 
24th, and has been seen many times since then. It was last reported on June 
22nd. It has been seen and heard singing less than 1-mile from Route 108 on 
the north side of the road, among scattered alders in a field and near a 
small pond.



2 SANDHILL CRANES have returned to their summering grounds in Monroe and can 
sometimes be seen in fields along the Connecticut River as far as 9-miles 
north of the town center and also in fields along Plains Road. If you look 
for these birds, please do not venture onto the farm fields, which are 
privately owned.



A FOX SPARROW, a SPRUCE GROUSE with 5-chicks, and 2 BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKERS 
were all reported from Magalloway Mountain Road in Pittsburg on June 25th.



A BOREAL CHICKADEE nest was found in a large dead paper birch snag located 
on the northeast side of the Caps Ridge Trail parking lot off of Jefferson 
Notch Road in the White Mountains. The snag is multi-trunked and about 20 
feet tall with snapped off tops. The cavity nest hole is on the left-most 
trunk as viewed from the parking lot. Adult BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen 
visiting the nest on June 28th and 29th.



Hikers that took the Caps Ridge Trail off of Jefferson Notch Road in the 
White Mountains on the to the summit of Mount Jefferson reported 3 FOX 
SPARROWS, 8 BICKNELL'S THRUSHES, 2 AMERICAN PIPITS, a RED CROSSBILL, and 12 
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS all on June 29th.



A bird surveyor on the Davis Path to Stairs Mountain in Crawford Notch in 
the White Mountains reported 4 BOREAL CHICKADEES, 10 BICKNELL’S THRUSHES, 
and 12 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS on June 29th.



A BICKNELL’S THRUSH was seen well at the south end of the Rim Trail on 
Cannon Mountain in Franconia Notch on June 29th.



A pair of RUSTY BLACKBIRDS and a group of RED CROSSBILLS were all reported 
from Loveren Mill Cedar Swamp in Antrim on June 29th.



A possible RUSTY BLACKBIRD was reported from the Guinea Pond Trail off of 
Sandwich Notch Road on June 18th.



A BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was heard in Durham on June 28th, and 1 was heard in 
Hebron on June 29th.



139 CHIMNEY SWIFTS were seen roosting together in Lebanon on June 24th.



2 COMMON NIGHTHAWK nests were located in Concord during the past week.
