The Norwich 2010 Birding Quest http://www.vtecostudies.org/quest/
will offer its monthly birding walk on the trail system at the end of
Cossingham Road in Norwich on Saturday, July 10, 2010, from 7:00-10:00
am. This conserved area features a mix of open hayfields (with
nesting Bobolinks and Savannah Sparrows), a small shrubby wetland
(with nesting Black-billed Cuckoos, Alder Flycatchers, and Cedar
Waxwings in past years), and both deciduous and coniferous woodlands
that support a good mix of forest-nesting birds (including, in past
years, Blue-headed Vireo, Northern Parula, Blackburnian Warbler,
Evening Grosbeak, and many White-throated Sparrows). Meet at Dan and
Whit's General Store on Main Street in Norwich at 6:45 am and carpool
the ~3 miles from there. Participants should wear comfortable walking
shoes, bring binoculars if available, and be prepared for the
possibility of mosquitoes. Chris Rimmer of the Vermont Center for
Ecostudies will lead this walk which is free and open to both Norwich
residents and others. Children are welcome with an accompanying adult.

George
