On the basis of a report tonight from Parker River National Wildlife
Refuge (Plum Island), considerable numbers of tree swallows are still
moving north. Jim Berry reported the numbers and commentary below,
associated with what he terms "a major fallout of migrants"
Closer to home, there were ~80 swallows at Ledyard this morning, ~30 of
which were tree. About the same number of Bank Swallow, which was nice
to see.
And right outside our house we have at least one pair setting up shop.
Doug & Spencer Hardy, Norwich
from Jim Berry's Plum Island report of today:
Purple Martin 2 finally, a pair at lot 1 "colony"
Tree Swallow 1000+ Rough estimate, and a minimum number. Swarming
everywhere; reminded me more of August than May. At least 500 were
perched in one place.
Barn Swallow 200 rough estimate; they too were everywhere
