Join fellow birders in seeking newly-arrived Windsor County spring
migrants on Sunday May 6, 2012. The Vermont County 2012 Birding Quest
http://www.vtecostudies.org/quest/ will hold a morning field trip led by
Chris Rimmer and Spencer Hardy, starting at 7:30 AM at Lake Runnemede in
Windsor, VT, and continuing to at least one other nearby location with
an ending time around 10:30 AM. Driving instructions are given below;
please note that there will be carpooling from Norwich. This field trip
is free and open to the public. Participants should be able to walk at
least a mile over fairly level, but sometimes uneven, ground. Sturdy and
water-resistant footwear is recommended. Bring binoculars and a scope
if available. We'll be especially looking for waterbirds and migrant
landbirds in one of Windsor County's most productive and reliable
birding sites.
Road and carpooling instructions: From Exit 9 off I-91, turn south on
Route 5 towards Windsor. After going about 3 miles southward on Route 5,
look for the Back Forty guns and ammo store on the left, with a Price
Chopper supermarket just beyond, also on the left. This walk will begin
at 7:30 AM by the entrance to an unpaved driveway directly across Route
5 from the Back Forty store. Please do not drive into that driveway, as
vehicular use is reserved for local residents. Parking is available on
the dirt pull-off along Route 5, but be sure your site is legal.
Residents from towns in the Hanover/Norwich area are encouraged to
carpool from the River Road commuter parking lot in Norwich by the
Ledyard Bridge at 7:00 AM that morning. We will plan to return to the
commuter lot by 11:00 AM.
