This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, December 4th, 
2008.



A SNOWY OWL was seen in Rye on December 3rd, one was seen at Rye Harbor 
State Park on December 1st, and one was seen at Hampton Beach State Park on 
November 28th.



A female DICKCISSEL was seen in Francestown at a private residence on 
December 2nd.



A SEDGE WREN was seen near the Great Bay Discovery Center on Depot Road in 
Stratham on November 28th, a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen here on the 27th, 
and a MARSH WREN was seen here on the 30th. 2 MARSH WRENS were seen at 
Chapman's Landing in Stratham on November 29th.



3 GLAUCOUS GULLS, 7 ICELAND GULLS, and 3 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were all 
seen at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment Plant on December 3rd. The 
treatment plant is gated and the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on 
weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the office and be out of the 
plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have to ask birders to leave. 
Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the road. The Trails at Pickering 
Ponds, located east of the plant, are not gated, and are always open during 
daylight hours.



2 ICELAND GULLS and a GLAUCOUS GULL were seen at Hampton Beach State Park on 
November 30th.



A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Frost Point in Odiorne Point State 
Park, and one was seen in Eel Pond, both in Rye on November 30th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE, a MERLIN, and a GREAT HORNED OWL were seen at the 
Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on November 27th.



A PINE GROSBEAK, 3 EVENING GROSBEAKS, and 3 WINTER WRENS were seen near 
Trudeau Road in Bethlehem on November 30th.



A SNOW GOOSE was seen in Hampton Falls on November 30th.



A NORTHERN SHOVELER, and 10 LESSER SCAUP were seen at the Exeter Wastewater 
Treatment Plant on December 1st. A RUSTY BLACKBIRD was seen here on November 
30th.



2 AMERICAN COOTS were seen at Powderhouse Pond in Exeter on November 30th.



2 RED-NECKED GREBES, 3 PIED-BILLED GREBES, and 42 HOODED MERGANSERS were 
seen on Spofford Lake on December 3rd.



A HORNED GREBE, 13 COMMON GOLDENEYE, and 3 COMMON LOONS were seen on 
Newfound Lake in Bristol on December 2nd.



A BLACK SCOTER, 3 RUDDY DUCKS, 2 BUFFLEHEADS, 46 COMMON GOLDENEYE, and13 
COMMON MERGANSERS were seen on Lake Massabesic on November 26th.



3 LESSER SCAUP, 47 HOODED MERGANSERS, 99 COMMON MERGANSERS, 161 COMMON 
GOLDENEYE, 3 COMMON LOONS, 3 RED-NECKED GREBES, and a GREAT CORMORANT were 
seen on Lake Winnesquam in Laconia on November 30th.



Over 1,000 GREATER SCAUP and 4 AMERICAN WIGEON were seen on Great Bay on 
November 28th.



A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was seen in Francestown on November 30th.



A BLUE-HEADED VIREO was seen in Raymond on December 1st.



A BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER were seen at the 
junction of Routes 111 and 1A in North Hampton on November 26th.



A PALM WARBLER was seen at Pulpit Rocks in Rye on November 29th.



A COMMON YELLOWTHROAT was seen in North Hampton, and a GRAY CATBIRD was seen 
in Rye, both on December 2nd.



A WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was seen at Great Bay Farm in Greenland on November 
30th.



An AMERICAN WOODCOCK was seen in East Kingston on November 26th.



A flock of 10 RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS was seen in Lebanon on December 4th,



Over 7,000 CEDAR WAXWINGS were reported from the Plymouth State University 
campus area, and a flock of 800 CEDAR WAXWINGS was seen in Penacook, all on 
November 30th.



There have been scattered sightings of PURPLE SANDPIPERS along the coast 
during the past week, and there have also been scattered sightings of 
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, SNOW BUNTINGS and HORNED LARKS from coastal and 
inland sites during the past week.
