While driving up I-91 on my way to work this morning about 9:40 at about milepost 88-88.4 (Post Mills), I spotted a buteo-like hawk in the distance as it flew across the highway. I assumed it was a Red-tail until all of a sudden it reappeared hunting low over the median, giving me excellent, albeit brief, views. It was a light-phase Rough-leg with the typical solidly black belly, white-based tail with a broad black band at the end, and large black carpal spots on the wings. I did pull over but it did not come back in my direction, and I wasn't getting out of the car. I suspect it may be working it's way south, so be on the lookout.
