For the last 2 wk, both Merlin and Cornell’s other product, Birdnet, have regularly identified this early morning, distinctively calling bird as Great Crested Flycatcher. New to me in 28 yr here. eBird was pretty dismissive as unlikely. I have only heard it, maybe saw some activity in the high leafy canopy.

Today, my neighbor said that for the second time in a few days, she saw a bird hover briefly like a hummingbird over backyard wildflowers, bigger than a hummer, smaller than a robin, with a yellowish belly. It also hovered “looking in” her glass door. We live in woodsy clearings near brooks and a pond. Yes many many insects.
