Excellent weather for birders' comfort in November marked today's
Norwich 2010 Birding Quest field trip. Under sunny skies and with calm
breezes, participants, more than a dozen at the start, searched for
birds from Norwich going from the Foley Park area northward along the
Connecticut River to the area around Pompy. Then four participants
continued on to seek birds in the Kilowatt Park area of Wilder (a
section of Hartford, VT). There, two other birders from Norwich joined
with our group for a time.

Some highlights among 24 species found during today's outing included
two Great Blue Herons in the vicinity of Kendall Station Road, 5
species of waterfowl (Canada Geese, Wood Ducks [only from Wilder],
Mallards, Hooded Mergansers, and Common Mergansers), a Belted
Kingfisher near Pompy Farm, a few Pileated Woodpeckers, fine views of
a Brown Creeper at Pompy, a Northern Mockingbird in Wilder, a House
Finch near Pompy Farm, and 3 Evening Grosbeaks along Kendall Station
Road.

P.S. After the trip, 3 Pine Siskins briefly visited the backyard here
in Norwich village.
