This is the Vermont Rare Bird Alert for July 23, 2007 covering the period
July 16 - 22, 2007.
This week's highlights include a LITTLE BLUE HERON sighted at the Hogle
Wildlife Sanctuary in Brattleboro and at Brattleboro Retreat Meadows on 7/20
(not seen since), a GLOSSY IBIS seen 7/17 - 7/19 at Allen Brothers Marsh in
Westminster and two SANDHILL CRANES observed along Quaker Village Road in
Weybridge on 7/14.
Ten GREAT BLUE HERONS were observed at Herrick's Cove on 7/18.
Shorebird migration produced 8 KILLDEER at Herrick's Cove 7/18 and 2 at
Brattleboro Retreat Meadows 7/21, 30 GREATER YELLOWLEGS at Herrick's Cove
7/18 and 1 at Dead Creek 7/22, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER at Allen Brothers Marsh
and at Henwood Hill Marsh on 7/19, 2 at Dead Creek and 1 at Brattleboro
Retreat Meadows on 7/22, 4 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS and 8 LEAST SANDPIPERS
at Dead Creek 7/22, 300+ LEAST SANDPIPERS at Herrick's Cove 7/18 and 22
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS at Herrick's Cove 7/18.
A CASPIAN TERN was spotted in Shelburne Bay on 7/16.
A YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was observed in Chittenden on 7/20.
Three GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS were seen at the Franklin County State Airport on
7/20.
