Speaking of eagles, one of Windsor's eagles was perched near the nest tree this morning. I guess we'll soon be seeing some activity there.
Under the bird feeder this Saturday there were 34!! Mourning doves. A couple of Juncos didn't seem to mind the crowd. Male and female cardinals touched down, but didn't stay.

Subject: [UVB] Eagle Watch at Wilder Dam 2/21/15

Between 10 AM and Noon on Saturday February 21, 2015, Mascoma Chapter of New Hampshire Audubon plans to hold its annual eagle watch at Wilder Dam. This event is free and open to the public. Participants can come and go as they wish at any time. Bring binoculars and scopes if available. This field trip involves relatively little walking so participants may wish to dress especially warmly. Eagles might not be continually in sight, so patience may be needed. In addition to watching for Bald Eagles, we'll be on the lookout for other birds which often include Common Mergansers.

Road instructions: From Exit 12 off I-91 in Wilder, Vt, turn east toward Route 5. On reaching Route 5 (Hartford Avenue), turn left.
Continue (northward) to the fourth right, turning onto Depot Street.
Take the next left (onto Norwich Ave.), and then an immediate right turn going over the bridge to Passumpsic Avenue. At Passumpsic Avenue turn right toward Wilder Dam. Park in the first parking lot on the right (entrance at a break in the guard rail) and then walk downhill to the viewing area around the parking lot nearest the dam.
(Alternatively, drive directly to that last lot where you might park if plowed out and if any parking spaces remain. In recent days, most of the last lot has been filled with large snow piles from plowing, leaving little space for parking vehicles.)
