This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Monday, September 30th,
2019.
A GULL-BILLED TERN and a LITTLE GULL were seen along the coast at Odiorne
Point State Park in Rye on September 28th.
3 BLACK SKIMMERS were seen flying south along the coast on September 29th.
A CASPIAN TERN was seen off Seabrook Beach, and a CORY’S SHEARWATER was seen
off of Little Boar’s Head in North Hampton, both on September 26th.
An AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHER was seen at Star Island in the Isles of Shoals on
September 28th.
A LECONTE’S SPARROW was seen at Woodmont Orchard in Hollis on September
24th, 25th, and 26th, but has not been relocated since then.
A LARK SPARROW was seen at Tullando Farm in Orford on September 25th.
2 DICKCISSELS continue to be reported from Woodmont Orchard in Hollis and
were last reported on September 27th.
A GRASSHOPPER SPARROW was seen at Woodmont Orchard in Hollis on September
26th and 1 was seen at Morrill’s Farm in Penacook on the 25th.
A WHITE-EYED VIREO was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on September
28th.
4 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS were seen with a large flock of warblers in Sandwich
on September 26th.
A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was seen at Great Bay Farm in Greenland on September
27th, 1 was seen at Woodridge Park in Durham on the 28th, and 1 was seen at
Woodmont Orchard in Hollis on the 28th.
A KENTUCKY WARBLER was seen at the West Branch Pine Barrens Preserve in
Madison on September 28th.
A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was seen at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on
September 29th.
An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen at Pickering Ponds in Rochester on
September 25th.
2 SANDHILL CRANES were seen foraging in fields in Monroe on September 27th,
A TRUMPETER SWAN was discovered at NH Audubon’s Abe Emerson Marsh in Candia
on April 13th and continues being seen. It was last reported on September
29th.
A VIRGINIA RAIL was seen in Kingston on September 24th.
Late migrating COMMON NIGHTHAWKS included a flock of 21 seen in Concord on
September 23rd.
A flock of 19 NORTHERN FLICKERS was seen on a lawn in Alton on September
29th.
A GOLDEN EAGLE was reported from the Berlin landfill on September 24th, and
1 was reported from Carter Hill in Concord on the 25th.
3 BLACK VULTURES were reported from Nashua on September 25th.
RAPTOR migration is under way with migrating raptors being counted daily at
the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough. Over 8,995
raptors, mainly BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, have already been tallied there since
September 1st. The Carter Hill Raptor Migration Observatory in Concord is
now being staffed by volunteers for a few days each week and has tallied
over 2,300 raptors since September 1st. Be sure to visit these observatories
during the fall season to help out with their counts!
