This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Monday, June 16th, 2014.



There was an unconfirmed report of a MISSISSIPPI KITE in Epping on June 
11th.



A LEAST BITTERN was seen at World End Pond in Salem, and 1 was seen at the 
marsh located near Surrey Lane in Durham, both on June 11th. A SORA and a 
VIRGINIA RAIL were reported from the marsh on Geremonty Drive in Salem on 
June 12th.



An AMERICAN COOT was seen and photographed on the Magalloway River in the 
Lake Umbagog area earlier in June.



A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was reported from near Rye Harbor on June 14th.



A male BUFFLEHEAD was seen and photographed at Bayberry Pond in Kingston on 
June 15th.



A PURPLE MARTIN was seen at Pennichuck Pond in Nashua on June 15th, and 5 
PURPLE MARTINS were seen from Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on June 14th.



A possible YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from Boire Field in Nashua on 
June 15th.



A pair of EVENING GROSBEAKS was seen in Troy on June 15th.



A FISH CROW was reported from Durham on June 14th.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER nest with 2 adults present and young-birds heard 
begging was reported from nearly 1-mile along the Caps Ridge Trail, off of 
the Jefferson Notch Road in the White Mountains on June 15th. Also present 
were at least 2 BICKNELL’S THRUSHES.



A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER nest with 2 adults present and young-birds heard 
begging was reported from the west side of Trudeau Road, about seven-tenths 
of a mile from Route 3, in Bethlehem on June 15th.



A MOURNING WARBLER was seen along Base Station Road in Crawford Notch on 
June 15th.



A PALM WARBLER was reported from Bradford Bog on June 14th.



3 BOREAL CHICKADEES, a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, a MOURNING WARBLER, and an 
OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER were seen in Pittsburg on June 15th.



2 adult PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen in Columbia on June 14th.



An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen at Dodge Pond in Lyman on June 14th, and 
an AMERICAN BITTERN was heard here on June 16th.



Birders in the Lake Umbagog area in early June reported several GRAY JAYS, 
at least 4 OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS, 2 MERLINS, and a BLACK-BACKED 
WOODPECKER.



A MERLIN was seen in Nashua on June 15th.



2 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS were reported from Mountain Road in Lempster on 
June 14th.



A NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL was heard in Nashua on June 16th.



Over 200 BANK SWALLOW nests were tallied along the Merrimack River in 
Concord on June 14th.
