This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Thursday, September 6th,
2007.
A LITTLE BLUE HERON was seen along Route 1A near the North Hampton and Rye
town lines on September 1st. 3 GLOSSY IBIS were seen flying over Seabrook,
and 40 SNOWY EGRETS were seen in Rye, all on September 2nd.
A NORTHERN SHOVELER, a NORTHERN PINTAIL, 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS and a
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER were seen at the Rochester Waste Water Treatment
Plant on September 5th.
A BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, a WESTERN SANDPIPER and 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were
seen in Rye Harbor on September 5th.
6 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and a PECTORAL SANDPIPER were reported from Hampton on
September 3rd. 9 WESTERN SANDPIPERS were reported from along the coast on
August 31st.
A HUDSONIAN GODWIT, and 3 RED KNOTS were seen in Hampton Harbor on September
3rd. 8 WHIMBRELS and a WESTERN SANDPIPER were seen at the Little River
Sanctuary in North Hampton on September 1st.
4 UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen at the Pease International Tradeport in
Portsmouth on September 3rd. A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 2 MARSH WRENS, and 2
YELLOW WARBLERS were seen at the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant on
September 5th.
21 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 18 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, 8 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, 2 PRAIRIE WARBLERS, a YELLOW
WARBLER, and a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH were highlights of a report from the
Deerhill Wildlife Management Area in Brentwood on September 3rd.
3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, a GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 1 KILLDEER, and a SPOTTED SANDPIPER were all seen on a mudflat
on the Merrimack River in Penacook on September 2nd. 6 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS
were seen at the adjacent Morrill Farm on the same day.
COMMON NIGHTHAWK migration appears to have peaked last week with high counts
reported mainly on August 30th, including 733 in Keene, 459 in Warner, and
330 in Concord.
2 EASTERN WOOD-PEWEES and 4 EASTERN KINGBIRDS were seen along the Exeter
River in Brentwood on September 2nd. A GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER was seen at
Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge in Newington on September 2nd.
2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS were seen at Odiorne Point State Park on September
2nd.
A TENNESSEE WARBLER was reported from West Foss Farm in Durham on September
5th, one was seen in Boston Lot Lake in Hanover on September 3rd, and one
was seen in Penacook on September 1st. A BLUE-WINGED WARBLER was seen on
Fogg Drive in Durham on August 31st.
A WILSON'S WARBLER, a BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER and a NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH were
all reported from Penacook on September 2nd, and a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was
seen in Penacook on September 1st.
24 INDIGO BUNTINGS were seen at Morrill Farm in Penacook on September 2nd.
30 BOBOLINKS were seen at Horseshoe Pond in Concord on August 31st.
2 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen on South Baldface in Chatham on
September 2nd.
A YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER and a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER were reported from
Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on September 1st. A BAY-BREASTED
WARBLER was seen in Boston Lot Lake in Hanover on September 3rd.
A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen at the Trudeau Road wetlands in Bethlehem
on September 1st. A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER, 4 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, and 2
BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen on Owls Head in the Pemigewasset Wilderness in
the White Mountains on August 31st.
7 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS and a WILSON'S WARBLER were seen near Cherry Pond in
Jefferson on August 30th. A hiker on the Davis Path to Mount Resolution in
the White Mountains reported 4 BOREAL CHICKADEES and a WILSON'S WARBLER on
September 4th.
A kettle of 30 TURKEY VULTURES was reported from the Ashland area on August
30th.
HAWK migration is under way with 286 raptors already reported from the Pack
Monadnock Raptor Migration Observatory in Peterborough since September 1st.
