A walk this morning along the main, winding, 3-mile-long, loop trail
on Norwich's wooded Parcel 5 off Beaver Meadow Road yielded 24 bird
species. A calling Eastern Wood-Pewee was my first-of-the-year for
that species in Norwich for 2010.

Along the trail, Red-eyed Vireos, American Robins, Black-throated Blue
Warblers, and Ovenbirds were particularly noticeable for their
vocalizations. Chestnut-sided Warblers were especially vocal in the
lower elevations of Parcel 5 bordering Beaver Meadow Road. Some of the
other species detected on Parcel 5 included Veery, Hermit Thrush, Wood
Thrush, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Black-throated Green Warbler,
Blackburnian Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Scarlet Tanager, White-
throated Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, and an
Indigo Bunting.
