This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, April 28th,
2010..
A WHITE-FACED IBIS was seen with a flock of 33 GLOSSY IBIS in North Hampton
on April 25th, but has not been reported again.
A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen over the Connecticut River in Hinsdale on April
26th.
A COMMON MURRE was seen off of Little Boar's Head in North Hampton on April
27th, and an ICELAND GULL was seen here on April 24th.
2 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS were seen at the Rochester Wastewater Treatment
Plant in Rochester on April 28th. The treatment plant is gated and the hours
of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you visit, please check in at the
office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that plant personnel do not have
to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the dikes and do not block the
road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east of the plant, are not
gated, and are always open during daylight hours.
A NORTHERN SHOVELER was seen at the Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on
April 25th.
6 BRANT were seen off of Rye Ledge on April 24th.
5 UPLAND SANDPIPERS were seen from Short Road at the Pease International
Tradeport in Newington on April 24th.
2 WILSON'S SNIPE were seen at the fields next to Horseshoe Pond in Concord
on April 24th.
An AMERICAN COOT was seen at the Pickering Ponds on Pickering Road in
Rochester on April 22nd.
A PIED-BILLED GREBE was reported from Colby Marsh in Durham on April 24th.
A SORA was reported from Odiorne Point State Park in Rye on April 25th.
A male BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen near Little Cherry Pond in the
Pondicherry National Wildlife Refuge in Jefferson on April 25th.
Over 10 EVENING GROSBEAKS and 3 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were tallied in the York
Pond Road area in Berlin on April 24th. 2 EVENING GROSBEAKS were seen in
Enfield Center on April 26th.
A pair of MERLINS was reported from Squam Lake in Sandwich on April 23rd.
2 FISH CROWS were reported from Silver Lake in Tilton on April 25th, at
least 2 were seen in West Ossipee on the 23rd, one was seen on a nest in
Hampton on the 24th, and 1 was seen in Nashua on the 22nd.
Returning migrants reported during the past week included: SCARLET TANAGER,
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, EASTERN KINGBIRD, CLIFF SWALLOW, GRAY CATBIRD, and
VESPER SPARROW.
