This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Wednesday, October 21st, 
2009.



A DICKCISSEL was seen on the corner of River Road and Route 108 in Stratham 
on October 17th, and 3 BOBOLINKS were seen in the same area on the 15th.



A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen at Hebron Marsh on October 19th. Also present 
were 10 RING-NECKED DUCKS.



2 HUDSONIAN GODWITS were seen in the pools at the end of Landing Road in 
Hampton on October 17th, 4 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were seen at Horseshoe 
Pond in Concord on the 18th, and 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were seen off of 
Cross Beach Road in Seabrook on the 17th.



A WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER was seen at Eel Pond in Rye on October 17th, and a 
WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER, 11 BLACK SCOTERS, a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, and a 
LESSER SCAUP were seen on Lake Massabesic in Auburn on the 16th.



A WILSON'S SNIPE and 2 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were reported from Ponemah Bog in 
Amherst on October 19th.



A flock of at least 30 SNOW GEESE was seen from the top of Pack Monadnock in 
Peterborough on October 14th, and 3 SNOW GEESE and 9 BRANT were reported 
from Hampton on October 16th.



A NORTHERN PINTAIL and 3 AMERICAN WIGEON were seen on Powderhouse Pond in 
Exeter on October 17th.



70 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS, 6 AMERICAN WIGEONS, and 3 LESSER SCAUP were seen at the 
Exeter Wastewater Treatment Plant on October 17th.



6 SURF SCOTERS and 3 BLACK SCOTERS were reported from Cherry Pond in 
Jefferson on October 15th.



2 LONG-TAILED DUCKS were seen on Great Bay on October 17th.



8 GREAT EGRETS, and a SNOWY EGRET were reported from along the coast on 
October 17th.



A NELSON'S SPARROW, 14 AMERICAN PIPITS, and 2 HORNED LARKS were seen at 
Horseshoe Pond in Concord on October 18th.



3 NELSON'S SPARROWS, including one from the Interior Race, were seen along 
Depot Road in Hampton on October 17th.



A NASHVILLE WARBLER was reported from the Silver Lake area in Madison on 
October 19th, a MAGNOLIA WARBLER was seen at Powderhouse Pond in Exeter on 
the 17th, and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER was reported from Lovewell Pond in Nashua 
on the 17th.



There was an unconfirmed report of a SWAINSON'S WARBLER from Coe Hill Road 
in Center Harbor on October 16th.



A CAROLINA WREN was reported from Ledyard Bridge in Hanover on October 16th.



HAWK migration is under way with 6,506 raptors, including 48 BALD EAGLES and 
3 GOLDEN EAGLES, reported from the Pack Monadnock Raptor Migration 
Observatory in Peterborough since September 1st. The biggest single-day 
counts to date were 2,129 raptors on September 16th, and 715 raptors on the 
21st. NH Audubon is again operating a second raptor observatory at Carter 
Hill Orchard in Concord, and its biggest single day was also on the 16th 
with over 300 raptors. Be sure to visit both observatories to help out with 
the count!
