My son Spencer did the Birdathon yesterday, as he had a Track meet on
Saturday. It was a long day with a few fun surprises, memorable looks at
a few, and especially interesting in what we did not see! We stayed
entirely within Norwich, but this year brought a car along.

Species highlights included the Crane and Night-heron mentioned
yesterday (crane not present at ~2pm; heron still there at 6:30pm), and
as noted below.

Warblers were generally in short supply, in overall numbers and number
of species. Spencer has been working to learn songs, yet getting only 12
species yesterday must be his lowest Birdathon total in 4-5 years of
doing them. We also saw relatively few swallows, and NO raptors other
than 1 lone TV. We saw no pileateds, yet 3 flickers. And despite
searching, we missed Kingfisher and Great Blue Heron...

All in all, I can't imagine a nicer way to spend a day!
